Your Choice to Live, Inc. to hold Second Annual Fundraiser May 18 John McGivern headlines event to raise awareness in effort to fight opioid and heroin abuse
Western Lakes Golf Club will be the location for the second annual fundraiser for Your Choice to Live, Inc., set for Friday, May 18th.
John McGivern, Emmy Award winning actor and writer will be the keynote speaker at this event, to include a family style fish fry, silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will be used toward Your Choice’s 2018 goals, including:
Provide Lunch and Learn educational sessions to local businesses
Continue free public and private tours of the Wake Up Call teen bedroom model in Hartland
Offer free in-service training to schools, clubs and organizations to help recognize indicators of substance use/abuse
Purchase Narcan, used to treat drug overdoses, to provide to families in need
Continue to assist families through information, resources and support
The fundraiser will run from 5 to 8:30 p.m. May 18 at Western Lakes, W287 N1963 Oakton Road in the Town of Delafield. Tickets are $75 per person; for more information or to register, click here.
Your Choice was founded in 2009 by the Lybert family – Sandi, Rick, Ashleigh and Tyler. Sandi Lybert, self-described as the mother of a recovering drug addict and alcoholic – Tyler –left her career in banking to pursue building Your Choice. Her family, along with other volunteers, speaks at schools and to parents and community members about the devastating effects of drugs and alcohol.
Your Choice’s mission is to provide awareness, prevention education, resources and support to youth, parents, schools and communities regarding alcohol and drug use.
Ongoing goals include:
Raising awareness about drugs and alcohol among youth, parents, and the community through education on the risks of drug and alcohol and helping them work together.
Removing barriers to discussing the issues of drugs/alcohol and the devastating effects on young people and their families.
Restructuring resources to offer a variety of support, education, counseling and treatment.
Programs to address substance abuse among teens and young adults include the Stairway to Heroin Educational Series, a four-part prevention plan; Deadly Decisions and Playgrounds to Pills.
